What is “prolotherapy”?

“Prolotherapy” is a regenerative treatment method with an analgesic effect, which contributes to cell regeneration and the regeneration of the ligaments and tendons of our musculoskeletal system using our body’s own natural mechanisms.

This is a “minimal invasive technique” for repairing damaged and degenerated tissue.

It is used for musculoskeletal disorders and involves injections in the ligament and tendon areas, which allow them to regenerate and gain 40% in terms of strength and durability.

The method was applied for the first time by the American George Hackett with a very high efficiency, at nearly 90%. It improves tissues’ functional capacity and reduces pain, but the most important benefit is that there is no side effect to this method since it does not involve the use of drugs.

The term “Prolotherapy” comes from the Latin word “proles”, which means generation and clearly underlines tissues’ regenerative activity.

How does it work?

Local injections trigger natural regeneration mechanisms, creating new connective tissue in tendons and ligaments, which results in diminished pain and treatment of the root cause of the problem. Therefore it is not only an analgesic, but also helps cure the problem.

The links serve to stabilize the body’s joints and the tendons serve to move them.

After repeated minor injuries or long-term stress, the tendons and ligaments become weak, i.e. they can create conditions for the onset of pain.

“Prolotherapy” is a method that enables self-healing and induces recovery.

For what musculoskeletal system disorders is it applied?

The method is very effective against diseases involving chronic pain and in cases of injury, i.e. long-term diseases of the musculoskeletal system that are non-responsive to medicine.

Such problems include mild and moderate osteoarthritis of the knee, knee injuries, tendonitis, epicondylitis, heel spur, shoulder periarthritis, sports injuries, chronic back pain and fibromyalgia.

This method is applicable to all ages due to the fact that it has no side effects and that it is ideal for patients who cannot take drugs. It is not especially painful to apply, but it is possible that there will be pain the following day, which can be alleviated with basic analgesics.

Anti-inflammatory drugs are explicitly prohibited for a period of three weeks due to the fact that they prevent the tissue healing process and cancel out the positive effect of the treatment.

The first results regarding pain are evaluated in 3-4 weeks, but the cell regeneration process takes 8-12 weeks for tissues to be permanently restored. The method is applied 3-6 times every three weeks, depending on the seriousness of the patient’s health problem.

We conclude that “Prolotherapy” is the natural way to tackle musculoskeletal disorders, drug-free and without any side effects, mobilizing the body’s own self-healing mechanisms and achieving excellent results.
